The Branches

The Path to the Present

My path started when my younger brother gave my folks a sign to mark the driveway of their retirement home. It read, " THE FERGUSONS - THORNLEA". All dad could tell me was that his grandfather had immigrated from Scotland in the mid 1800's, from a place called Thornlea, and settled in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada.

It took two decades of casual searching to confirm the identity of the John Ferguson who was my dad's grandfather and my great grandfather. Additional confirmation came from a second cousin in Canada, but how we met is another story.

With John4 documented the succeeding generations are solidly confirmed. The Ferguson/Thomson - Ferguson Binning connection is supported by name duplication, ie: the name "THOMSON" appears in the Ferguson/Binning line as David THOMSON Ferguson, fourth son of John and Elizabeth.

The relationship of John1,2,3 is based on name and place of birth and death. The table at the right illustrates my ancestral line as I have been able to piece it together. Additional generational information is available using the GENERATION index on the left.
